nüs
A response to the Social Meets Service design challenge issued by Microsoft and Motorola in the spring of 2010, nüs is a news aggregation and delivery service that leverages social connections to deliver personalized news from sources around the world to around the corner.
Addressing the growing phenomenon of online news sources transitioning to a pay model, nüs provides consumers with a single package subscription to content from multiple news providers.
nüs uses both contextual and collaborative filtering to deliver content that is personally relevant. Users can indicate particular interests by specifying keywords like “Steelers” and preferred news sources like “Huffington Post.” They can further refine results by rating the stories that nüs delivers either thumbs-up or thumbs-down. nüs also takes into account their current context, including location and time of day, as well as what their social networks are reading and rating.
